Job summary

BakerHicks in the United Kingdom is seeking a Civil Engineer to join our growing team, delivering civil designs for power and energy infrastructure projects including substations, grid connections, and renewable facilities.

You will design and specify civil works, produce drawings and reports, collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams, and support early-career engineers while pursuing Chartered status. Hybrid working and clear career progression are available.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
  • Experience on civil infrastructure projects in power/energy sector preferred.
  • Strong drainage, earthworks and external works knowledge.
  • Working towards Chartered or Incorporated status (ICE/IStructE).
  • Proficiency in Civil 3D, AutoCAD for modelling and draughting.
  • Knowledge of Eurocodes, British Standards, CDM and BIM processes.
  • Good communication and client-facing skills.
  • Eligibility for security clearance.

We’re looking for a Civil Engineer to join our growing team at BakerHicks, delivering high-quality designs for power and energy infrastructure projects – including substations, grid connections, and renewable energy facilities – alongside exciting work in other sectors such as industrial, defence, rail, highways and more.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Designing and specifying civil works for large-scale projects, including drainage, external works, earthworks, and utilities.
  • Producing detailed drawings, specifications, and reports that meet the highest technical standards.
  • Working closely with multi-disciplinary teams to deliver safe, efficient, and sustainable solutions.
  • Reviewing calculations and subcontractor designs for compliance and quality.
  • Supporting and mentoring early-career engineers, while contributing to technical excellence and best practice.
What We’re Looking For
  • Degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Experience delivering projects in one or more sectors – power sector experience desirable.
  • Strong understanding and experience in drainage design, earthworks, and external works.
  • Working towards Chartered or Incorporated status (ICE or IStructE).
  • Proficiency in Civil 3D, AutoCAD (or similar) for modelling, layouts, and draughting designs.
  • Good knowledge of Eurocodes, British Standards, CDM regulations, and BIM processes.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with clients and multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Eligibility for security clearance (essential for certain projects).
  • Work on major energy and infrastructure projects, helping to shape the UK’s power network.
