Job summary

Jacobs is seeking Civil Engineers to support detailed design and Design & Build water and wastewater projects across the UK. You will work in a multidisciplinary team, delivering robust, safe and constructible designs for regulated water clients.

This role is ideal for engineers developing technical capability, gaining exposure to contractor-led D&B delivery, and working with designers, construction teams and project managers across all lifecycle stages.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
  • Experience in civil engineering detailed design, ideally in water sector.
  • Understanding of detailed design and construction delivery.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team and follow defined technical processes.
  • Awareness of Design & Build delivery models.

Responsibilities

  • Produce detailed civil designs for water and wastewater assets in accordance with client standards and requirements.
  • Prepare drawings, calculations and technical documentation for design reviews and quality checks.
  • Support Design & Build and alliancing delivery, embedding constructability and sequencing considerations into design development.
  • Collaborate with contractors and supply chain partners, managing design changes and technical queries.
  • Support project planning and delivery, contributing to design scheduling, value engineering and cost-led decisions.
  • Manage design risk and records, maintaining clear technical records for commercial processes.

The UK & Ireland water sector is undergoing its largest period of transformation and investment in decades, creating sustained demand for high-quality engineering design and delivery. As part of this growth, we are expanding our teams to support complex detailed design and Design & Build (D&B) programmes across AMP cycles and long-term frameworks.

We are seeking Civil Engineers to support the delivery of detailed design and Design & Build (D&B) water and wastewater infrastructure projects across the UK. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary delivery team, contributing to technically robust, safe and constructable designs for regulated water clients.

This role is ideally suited to an engineer developing their technical capability in detailed civil design, gaining exposure to contractor-led D&B delivery, and working closely with designers, construction teams and project managers across all stages of the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities
  • Produce detailed civil designs for water and wastewater assets in accordance with client standards, statutory requirements and industry best practice.
  • Prepare drawings, calculations and technical documentation, supporting design reviews, technical checks and quality assurance under senior engineer guidance of working standardised design approaches and knowledge sharing across projects.
  • Support Design & Build and alliancing delivery, embedding constructability, temporary works, access, sequencing and commissioning considerations into design development.
  • Collaborate with contractors and supply chain partners, supporting live construction through effective management of design changes and technical queries.
  • Support project planning and delivery, contributing to design scheduling, option appraisal, value engineering and cost-led design decisions.
  • Manage design risk and records, identifying and mitigating risks under senior guidance while maintaining clear technical records to support commercial and contractual processes.

  • Degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Experience in civil engineering detailed design, ideally within the water sector.
  • Understanding of the principles of detailed design and construction delivery.
