Job summary

Abatec is assisting a regional civil engineering and groundworks contractor to strengthen their commercial and procurement team with an experienced Buyer. This hands-on role sources materials and secures competitive terms to keep projects on programme.

You will work closely with Estimating and Commercial teams, manage supplier relationships, monitor deliveries, and maintain purchasing records. A proven track record in civil engineering procurement is essential.

Qualifications

• Experience as a Buyer/Procurement professional within civil engineering & construction.
• Experience with Groundworks is advantageous.
• Strong knowledge of construction materials and supply chains.
• Commercially aware with strong negotiation skills.
• Confident dealing with suppliers, subcontractors and internal project teams.
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Obtain and analyse supplier quotations and negotiate competitive rates.
• Source aggregates, concrete, drainage, utilities and general civils/groundworks materials.
• Monitor orders, deliveries and supplier performance.
• Work closely with Estimating and Commercial teams to ensure procurement aligns with project budgets.
• Develop and maintain strong supplier relationships.
• Resolve delivery, pricing and invoice queries.
• Ensure materials and services are available in line with programme requirements.
• Maintain accurate purchasing records and purchase orders.
