A leading police organization in Chelmsford seeks a part-time Civil Claims Lawyer to manage litigated civil claims, focusing on providing a quality legal service. An exciting opportunity has arisen for an individual to join the Essex Police Legal Department as Civil Claims Lawyer. Applications are invited from person educated to degree level and who possess a legal qualification with a minimum of 3 years experience in civil litigation. You will support the Civil Claims Manager with providing a comprehensive quality legal service to Essex Police within the civil claims team.
You will be responsible for your own caseload of litigated civil claims against the Chief Constable from start to finish. This will include investigating claims and providing a liability response early identification of those claims that need to be settled defending litigated claims where liability is in dispute including drafting defences witness statements and interlocutory applications or engaging Counsel to do so where appropriate. A good working knowledge of the Civil Procedure Rules will be essential as will compliance with the deadlines set out therein.

Essex Police offer agile working which allows some flexibility in terms of work arrangements. Due to the operational nature of this role it will be predominantly office based within an office-based team. Some travel may be required to other police sites to discharge duty.
Essex Police offer incremental increases within this salary band therefore the salary for this position will rise to a maximum of 54876.00.
