Job summary

Blue Zoo Animation Studio is seeking an experienced 3D Layout Artist with a passion for cinematography and animation for an exciting UK production. You will collaborate with Directors and Supervisors to set up scenes, craft camera layouts, and refine shots for the animation pipeline.

The role requires strong knowledge of camera work, timing, and CG workflows, plus the ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced studio environment in London.

Qualifications

• Good understanding of cinematography, pacing, timing and general filmmaking concepts.
• Strong sense of animation timing.
• Can manage their time and work independently, but also work well in a team.
• Self-motivated and able to work calmly under pressure, responding well to feedback.
• Very strong communication skills and the initiative to liaise with other departments.
• Demonstrable artistic skills including a strong sense of composition and perspective.

Responsibilities

• Build scene set ups with Director Art Director, CG, Asset and Animation Supervisors to align with client Animatics.
• Create rough layouts and define initial character staging and cameras within a scene.
• Refine and polish shots provided by 3D Assets for delivery to the animation department.
• Adapt cameras based on Director critiques and changes.
• Collaborate with Storyboard, Assets and Animation to create layouts matching the Director's vision, potentially assembling layouts from 2D colorcards.
