Job description

Cinema Supervisor

As a key member of our management team, you will lead the day-to-day operation of the cinema, taking responsibility for delivering exceptional guest experiences while ensuring every shift runs safely, efficiently and to the highest standards. You will lead by example, supporting and developing your team, maintaining operational excellence across the Box Office, Café and cinema screens, and ensuring the venue remains clean, well-stocked and welcoming at all times.

Working closely with the Venue Manager, you will play an active role in driving sales performance, supporting staff development, overseeing private hire events and ensuring the cinema operates smoothly from opening until close.

Cinema Operations
  • Shift Leadership: Take ownership of the day-to-day operation of the cinema, confidently leading shifts and ensuring the venue operates safely, efficiently and in line with company standards.
  • Operational Standards: Ensure the cinema remains clean, fully stocked, well presented and ready to deliver an outstanding guest experience throughout every trading day.
  • Team Support: Provide direction, guidance and practical support to the team throughout service, leading by example and maintaining a positive working environment.
  • Opening & Closing Procedures: Confidently complete opening and closing procedures, including cashing up, venue security and daily operational checks, working independently where required.
  • Sales Performance: Assist in creating and implementing sales drivers, promotions and commercial initiatives that increase admissions, retail sales and guest engagement.
  • Scheduling & Stock: Provide input into staff scheduling, film scheduling and stock management, helping to ensure the cinema is appropriately resourced, films are programmed effectively and stock levels meet business demands.
  • Private Hire & Events: Coordinate private screenings, parties and venue hire enquiries from initial enquiry through to booking and delivery, ensuring every event is professionally organised and successfully executed.
  • Customer Communications: Respond professionally and promptly to customer enquiries received via email and social media, resolving issues wherever possible and escalating when appropriate.
  • Online Reputation: Monitor and respond to online reviews in a timely, professional and brand-appropriate manner, using guest feedback to continually improve the customer experience.
  • Age Verification & Compliance: Demonstrate a thorough understanding of age verification legislation and company policies relating to the sale of age-restricted products, including alcohol and admission to films rated 12A, 15 and 18. Confidently oversee compliance, support colleagues with Challenge 25 procedures, and ensure the legal responsibilities of the individual, venue and company are consistently upheld.
  • Cash & Financial Procedures: Ensure cash handling and payment procedures are followed correctly throughout each shift, investigating and reporting discrepancies where necessary.
Personal Development
  • Team Development: Assist with the induction, training and ongoing development of team members, monitoring performance and providing regular coaching and support.
  • Performance Management: Identify opportunities for improvement within the team, providing constructive feedback and escalating performance concerns to senior management where appropriate.
  • Brand Standards & SOPs: Ensure all team members understand and consistently follow company policies, standard operating procedures and brand standards.
  • Cross-Department Collaboration: Work collaboratively with colleagues across the wider venue to ensure the successful delivery of business objectives.
  • Own Development: Take ownership of your own professional development by engaging with company training, leadership programmes and continuous learning opportunities.
Requirements
  • Experience: Previous supervisory or management experience within a cinema, hospitality, leisure or customer service environment.
  • Leadership: A confident leader who can motivate, organise and support a team while maintaining high operational standards.
  • Organisation: Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise, multitask and adapt quickly to changing business demands.
  • Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with confidence communicating professionally with guests, colleagues and management.
  • Problem Solving: Calm under pressure with the ability to make effective decisions and resolve issues quickly while leading by example.
  • Systems & Administration: Comfortable learning bespoke cinema systems and carrying out administrative responsibilities, including scheduling support, customer correspondence and event coordination.
  • Commercial Awareness: An understanding of sales performance, stock control and operational efficiency, with the confidence to contribute ideas that drive business performance.
  • Flexibility: Willingness to work varied shifts, including evenings, weekends and public holidays, according to business needs.
About Us

Scotsman Group is a collection of over 50 venues. Many of our venues are housed in listed buildings, carefully restored, expanded, refreshed and put to good use. We have restaurants, hotels, nightclubs, bars, cinemas, student accommodation and more.

One thing all our places have in common is our people - they work hard, often behind the scenes, and they are the best at what they do. They are a wildly eclectic bunch, from the architect who makes the drawings come to life, to the domestic team who make our hotel rooms feel like home. We are always growing and on the lookout for fresh talent, so if you've got it, bring it.

What We Stand For

Our values aren't rules or guidelines our people need to follow; they are the catalyst for an unwritten work ethic. No matter where you work or what you do, these values remain the same.

  • We put the guest first: Without our guests, we are nothing. They are at the centre of every decision we make.
  • We make our jobs our own: Our success relies on people taking ownership of their role and thinking entrepreneurially.
  • We work together: Treat your colleagues like family. Support, respect and encourage one another.
  • Work hard: Strive to stand out from the crowd and take pride in being the best at what you do.
  • We grow: Growth and commercial success are essential to our future, and every decision should support that ambition.
Employee Benefits
  • See it First: FREE cinema tickets in all of our cinemas, exclusively for cinema employees.
  • Sleep Over: Exclusive staff rates in our hotels, subject to availability.
  • Stay Out Late: Free entry to all of our clubs for you and one friend.

  • A Hard Earned Rest: Take your break, knowing it isn't deducted from your pay.
  • Scotsman Perks: Exclusive offers and discounts via our employee benefits portal.
