Job Overview

CHS is looking for enthusiastic individuals to join our Facilities team within the Portering Services department at the Huddersfield Royal Infirmary. This is a part‑time, permanent role of 30 hours per week, covering a 7‑day rota with early, late and night shifts, including weekends and public holidays.

Key Duties
  • Transfer patients to wards and departments using wheelchairs, trolleys or beds; assist with patient transfers including use of PAT slides.
  • Collect and transport deceased to the mortuary, documenting all work and ensuring the mortuary is opened, secured and cleaned.
  • Deliver case notes, clinical equipment and medicines (including controlled drugs) to wards following set procedures; record all jobs on the appropriate paperwork.
  • Collect and remove domestic and clinical waste, food trolleys, and other items from wards and departments on schedule.
  • Transport medical gear (ultrasound machines, crash trolleys, gas cylinders, etc.) as required.
  • Check delivery of B Braun instruments against paperwork and deliver to clinical departments.
  • Assist with on‑job training of new staff on portering duties on an ongoing basis.
  • Prioritise and work on own initiative, responding to changing workload and demand.
  • Assist with cleaning/decontamination of equipment such as wheelchairs and trolleys in line with divisional plans.
  • Adapt to new technologies (Capman system) used for task receipt and communication.
  • Provide a messenger service for Path Lab reports and X‑ray deliveries to the base file.
  • Participate in mandatory training and develop a personal development plan with the Line Manager.
  • Maintain professional conduct, including appearance, and comply with all policies, procedures and protocols.
  • Support colleagues when staffing shortages require additional service delivery and take scheduled breaks where appropriate.
Working Conditions

• 30 hours per week, part‑time, permanent posts on a 7‑day rota. • Shifts include early, late and night hours, covering weekends and public holidays.

  • Willingness to undertake a DBS check and, where applicable, obtain a Certificate of Sponsorship if a Skilled Worker visa is required.
