Job summary

Acorns Children's Hospice Trust are looking for a Children's Palliative Nurse Specialist to join our Three Counties Hospice in Worcester. Using your specialist clinical knowledge you will assess the care needs and development of life‑limited and life‑threatened children and provide holistic care, while facilitating the provision of palliative care training and research to enhance service delivery.

Job responsibilities
  • Holistically assess the situation and needs of children with life‑limiting conditions, including family needs.
  • Provide symptom management and end‑of‑life care/after‑death care to children and young people with complex health needs.
  • Offer psychological support to parents of life‑limited children.
  • Work in partnership with children, families and carers to achieve optimum outcomes by acknowledging individual preferences and lifestyles.
  • Collaborate in initiating, planning and facilitating multidisciplinary discharge and care‑planning meetings.
  • In the absence of the Clinical Lead, actively manage the service addressing sickness and operational issues as they arise.
  • Participate in the on‑call rota to provide telephone clinical support, out of hours, across Acorns hospice sites and community team(s).
  • Initiate and participate in research and audit relevant to the development and delivery of the service.
  • Facilitate and participate in the provision of training regarding palliative care for all grades of staff within and outside the service to ensure knowledge and skills are achieved to fulfil roles.
About you
  • Registered nurse.
  • Non‑medical prescribing (or willing to undertake).
  • Demonstrable relevant experience in palliative care.
  • Clinical leadership skills.
  • Ability to solve problems by acquiring and utilising information from diverse sources and recommending and implementing actions.

  • £41,500 to £45,000 per annum.
  • 37.5 hours per week (3 × 12.5 hour shifts).
