Job description

You will be working within a team of paediatric nurses looking after children and young people from 3 - 18 years old on the CYP ward, and outpatients care from birth. All children admitted to the ward are generally day case surgical procedures, including paediatric surgery, ENT, orthopaedics, urology and plastics. In your role you will cover pre assessment, inpatients, supporting the outpatients department and daycase diagnostics. You will be required to work shifts including occasional nights/ weekend work. Responsibilities
  • Deliver care to children from the age of 3 years including their pre/post-operative stay on the ward
  • Conduct pre assessment clinics / nurse‑led outpatients clinics for children aged 0‑18 years
  • Work alongside the Children's & Young Persons Lead Nurse to uphold high care standards
  • Play a vital role in the child’s journey through the hospital
  • Be a trusted guide and support for the child and their parents or guardians
  • Deliver high quality, clinically effective care as an essential part of our ward team
  • Work with a wide variety of cases which will broaden your skills and allow experience in different specialist areas
  • Be NMC qualified and have post‑registration experience in a surgical ward environment
  • Have experience in a children’s surgical setting (preferably multiple levels of post‑registration experience)
  • Be an excellent communicator, team worker, flexible and motivated
  • Understand each patient’s needs and provide individual attention
  • Work autonomously and liaise directly with consultants
  • Work on a bank basis – not contracted to a set number of hours per week, but on an ad‑hoc basis to meet business and availability needs
