A specialist education provider in Basingstoke is seeking a Teaching Assistant/Mental Health Support Assistant to support students with social, emotional, and mental health needs. The role involves working closely with trained professionals to assist in developing student confidence and progress in learning. Ideal candidates will have a degree in a related field or experience with young people. This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a restorative practice environment.

Overview

Child Mental Health Assistant/Teaching Assistant for pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs – Special School in Basingstoke for children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health Difficulties. Ages 11-16 – ASAP Start – Basingstoke.

A fantastic route for an aspiring Psychologist, Therapist or for someone looking to work in the Criminal Justice system. The school provides an alternative education for children who have social and emotional difficulties such as anxiety and school refusal due to developmental trauma and adverse childhood experiences, as well as specific learning difficulties such as Asperger’s and autism. The Teaching Assistant/Mental Health Support Assistant will be working closely with trained professionals including Psychologists and Therapists and will have the opportunity to shadow their work.

Responsibilities
  • Support the social, emotional and mental health development of the students.
  • Assist with education tailored to individual needs to enable and empower students to gain confidence and progress their learning.
  • Work in a restorative practice environment as part of a values-based team.
  • Collaborate with teachers, psychologists and therapists to support pupils in and out of the classroom.
