Job summary

Cafcass is hiring a Children’s Social Worker to work directly with children and families in Birmingham and Solihull. You will ensure children's voices influence court decisions, preparing reports and liaising with judges and partner agencies.

The role emphasizes child‑centred practice, robust risk assessment and working across private and public law, with a focus on learning and reflective supervision within Cafcass’s evolving family justice approach.

Qualifications

• Qualified social worker with registration in Social Work England.
• Strong analytical, organisational and communication abilities.
• Resilience, curiosity and confidence to work independently.

Responsibilities

• Conduct high‑quality assessments focusing on children's lived experience, safety and wellbeing.
• Engage directly with children so their views are understood and represented.
• Prepare clear, analytical reports for the family court, including Child Impact Reports.
• Apply robust risk assessment and mediation to support child‑focused decisions.
• Work effectively across private law proceedings with awareness of public law context.
• Manage caseload independently while contributing to a supportive, learning‑focused team.
