Overview

An exciting opportunity for a n Orthodontic Technician is now available in the Maxillofacial and Orthodontic laboratory at ST Georges Hospital.

We are seeking a skilled orthodontic technician to join our team . This posts plays a vital role in delivering high quality orthodontic care by designing, constructing and modifying custom appliances such as braces, removeable retainers, functional appliances , vacuum formed appliances and fixed appliances for routine and complex cases.

Key Responsibilities

The potholder will be required to work in a multidisciplinary team of other laboratory staff and clinicians within the Oral & Maxillofacial, Dental and Orthodontic Department and where appropriate participate in the design of required devices.

Work to the provided prescriptions providing all types of fixed, removeable and functional orthodontic appliances to the highest quality standards.

Complete all work to within the standard laboratory working times. Liaise and work with clinical and admin teams when required to support the turnaround of urgent patient cases.

Work within the laboratory team of Dental/Prosthodontic Technicians , Maxillofacial Prosthetists, and training STP students.

Candidate Requirements
  • Work within a team to support basic skills within the wider laboratory service specialties
  • Manage own workload and work effectively and efficiently
  • Be compliant with Trust policies and regulation requirements; COSHH, Health & Safety, MHRA, MDR
  • Ensure own skills are up to date with current practice and be responsible for maintaining CPD within the scope of the relevant registration body.
  • Support the training and education of junior or trainee staff
  • cast and trim alginate and silicone impressions for working models, Study models and teaching purposes.
  • Trim Orthodontic study models to AOB standards
  • Design and fabricate all types of removeable appliances incorporating bite planes, blocks, retentive components, springs and expansion screws.
  • Design and fabricate all types of fixed appliances such as palatal arches, quad helix and Nance devices
  • Proficient in laboratory techniques; soldering, vacuum forming, using quick curing autopolymerising materials, heat curing polymerising materials
  • Experience with CAD/CAM and 3D printing
  • PAR Assessment Scoring
  • Producing alternative treatment options as Kesling set ups
