Role Overview

The Chief Operating Officer reports directly to the CEO and will be a member of Ofgem’s Senior Executive Committee. The COO will be deeply involved in all key executive decisions and will serve as the principal adviser on financial and corporate matters to the CEO and Board, also acting as Ofgem Accounting Officer.

The successful candidate will bring exceptional leadership skills and will be the lead in Ofgem’s corporate services transformation, setting strategic direction and priorities for the organisation. The COO will represent Ofgem across government, UK regulatory networks and the energy sector, and will have strong senior stakeholder engagement and relationship skills.

Responsibilities

The COO is responsible for setting the strategic direction for Ofgem, and for setting out its priorities each year, as the priorities and requirements change. The position will be accountable to both the CEO and to the Board, providing professional advice and judgment on a broad range of complex matters requiring experience and understanding of the central public sector. The post holder will also maintain corporate oversight of the integration of the additional roles and responsibilities that Ofgem is taking on at the request of the government, to support the delivery of Net Zero and the UK’s legally binding carbon reduction targets.
