Job summary

Co‑op Digital in Manchester is seeking a Head of Observability & Security Engineering to lead the design, build and operation of observability, security, identity and automation capabilities across our technology estate. You’ll ensure real-time insight, strong governance and resilient platforms supporting the organisation.

You’ll shape the strategy, lead a high‑performing team and collaborate with technology, security and business units to embed secure, scalable engineering in major programmes,

Qualifications

• Strong senior leadership experience in platform, security or engineering roles within a complex environment.
• Deep understanding of observability practices: logging, metrics, tracing and telemetry.
• Experience designing and delivering large-scale platforms like CMDB, ITSM or similar enterprise tooling.
• Strong background in security and identity engineering, including cloud identity solutions.
• Experience delivering automation and integrating systems at scale.

Responsibilities

• Lead the strategy and delivery of observability, security engineering and platform tooling across the organisation.
• Design and implement enterprise observability across cloud, on‑prem and SaaS environments with complete visibility.
• Oversee the development of a future-state CMDB and ITSM integration for better visibility and decision-making.
• Drive automation to reduce manual effort and improve reliability.
• Lead identity and access management engineering including cloud identity and lifecycle automation.
• Ensure security logging and telemetry support threat detection and regulatory requirements.
• Partner with tech, security and business teams to embed secure engineering in major programmes (cloud/M&A).
• Build and lead a high-performing team with strong engineering practices.
