About the Role
As a Chief Mechanical Engineer in the Medical department, you'll collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of designers, engineers, and project specialists to deliver exceptional medical and scientific products that make a real impact. You'll be responsible for planning, managing, and technically leading a wide variety of complex product development programmes—balancing creativity, quality, cost, and timelines.
- Lead and manage the delivery of medical device and scientific product development projects within an ISO 13485-compliant framework.
- Oversee technical, commercial, and project management aspects—from team organisation and budgeting to timeline control and risk management.
- Act as technical lead, guiding and reviewing the work of cross-functional teams (mechanical, electronics, software, and design).
- Support business growth by preparing proposals, pitching to clients, and developing strategic partnerships.
- Represent the organisation at medical industry conferences, trade shows, and seminars (including international events).
- Contribute to marketing and thought leadership through presentations, articles, and case studies.
- Drive innovative problem-solving and engineering excellence across projects.
About You
- Proven experience delivering successful medical product development projects under ISO 13485 or similar quality systems.
- Ideally, experience in a consultancy or multi-client environment.
- Strong commercial awareness and financial management skills, with the ability to plan, quote, and oversee complex projects.
- Excellent communication and client relationship-building skills.
- A 1st or 2:1 degree (or equivalent qualification) in Mechanical Engineering from a top university
- Hands-on experience with CAE tools, design validation, and a wide range of manufacturing -processes and materials, particularly high-volume methods such as injection moulding.
- A strong track record of leading multidisciplinary teams and delivering successful outcomes.
- Creative, detail-oriented, and passionate about improving lives through innovation.
- Eligibility to work in the UK and willingness to work on-site at our development studio.
