Job summary

Newton Abbot Town Council seeks a high‑impact Chief Executive Officer to drive strategic leadership, governance and delivery across services, assets, and cultural programmes. You will guide 18 councillors, manage a dedicated team and shape the town’s future in a changing local government landscape.

You will represent the council in civic life, navigate political environments with tact, and build partnerships to improve outcomes for residents while ensuring responsible management of public funds.

Qualifications

• Senior leadership, governance and financial oversight of a significant budget.
• Ability to navigate political environments and build trust with partners, staff and residents.
• Calm, collaborative leadership style with good judgement.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Council as Proper Officer and strategic leader, guiding policy and delivery.
• Oversee a committed officer team and support 18 councillors to achieve outcomes.
• Direct services, manage assets, run cultural programmes and contribute to civic life.
• Build organisational capacity and prepare the council for future changes in local government.
