Overview

The Welsh Government is establishing the Disused Tips Authority for Wales, an arm’s length body due to become operational on 1 April 2027. The Authority will deliver a proactive management regime for disused coal and non-coal tips, protecting human welfare, safeguarding communities, and ensuring the resilience of critical infrastructure.

This is a unique opportunity to be at the forefront of a new Welsh Government arm’s length body. You will play a key leadership role in the establishment of the Authority in relation to the assessment, registration, monitoring and management of disused tips. The Authority will play a pivotal role in providing a structured approach to managing the safety of the disused tips across Wales.

Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic leadership as the Authority’s inaugural Chief Executive Officer and lead the authority’s establishment.
  • Oversee the assessment, registration, monitoring and management of disused tips across Wales.
  • Develop and implement a proactive and structured safety regime for disused tips, protecting communities and critical infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with partners and stakeholders to shape the Authority’s approach and ensure high-quality outcomes.
  • Guide organisational development, culture and capability to deliver the Authority’s mandate from inception.
