Demob Job Ltd is seeking a Chief Engineer for an established hotel in St John's Wood, London, to lead the maintenance team and oversee upkeep of facilities. You will guide a small team, provide technical guidance on repairs and coordinate specialist contractors to keep the hotel running smoothly.

The ideal candidate has an engineering apprenticeship or relevant qualification, extensive maintenance experience across building services or marine environments, and proven people-management skills.

Qualifications

• Apprenticeship or technical qualification in electrical, mechanical, or plumbing.
• Practical maintenance and fault-finding across building services or related environments.
• Experience leading a team and setting standards with confident performance management.
• Strong organisational skills and ability to prioritise tasks and coordinate contractors.
• Willingness to cover occasional weekend work and site emergencies.

Responsibilities

• Lead, motivate and develop the maintenance team, allocating work and ensuring tasks are completed to a good standard.
• Oversee planned preventative and reactive maintenance across the hotel.
• Take a practical approach to fault finding, supporting the team with complex maintenance issues.
• Arrange and oversee specialist contractors, following up on outstanding work and checking completed work.
• Manage the maintenance budget, purchasing and stock requirements.
• Support refurbishment and equipment replacement projects with the General Manager and external contractors.
• Work with the Health and Safety Manager to maintain safe working practices and accurate maintenance records.
• Manage staff rotas, appraisals and day-to-day team performance.

I am recruiting for my client, an established hotel in St John's Wood, London, who is looking for a Chief Engineer to lead their maintenance team and oversee the upkeep of the hotel's facilities.

This is an excellent opportunity for a practical engineer who enjoys solving problems, leading people and taking ownership. You will lead a small team, provide technical guidance on more complex repairs and coordinate specialist contractors to keep the hotel running smoothly.

My client is particularly interested in candidates from an Armed Forces engineering background, including Royal Navy Marine Engineers, with transferable maintenance and team management experience.

Chief Engineer Responsibilities:

• Lead, motivate and develop the maintenance team, allocating work and ensuring tasks are completed to a good standard.
• Oversee planned preventative and reactive maintenance across the hotel.
• Take a practical approach to fault finding, supporting the team with more complex maintenance issues and repairs.

Chief Engineer Requirements:

• A recognised engineering apprenticeship or relevant technical qualification in an electrical, mechanical, plumbing or related discipline.
• Practical maintenance and fault finding experience across building services, facilities, marine engineering or a comparable environment.
• Previous experience managing a team, with the confidence to set standards, manage performance and follow work through to completion.
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise maintenance tasks and coordinate contractors.
• Flexibility to support occasional weekend work and attend site in the event of a significant emergency.

Chief Engineer Benefits
