Job summary

A local financial services firm in Worcester is seeking a Chief Accountant for a 5.5-month contract. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing the Statement of Accounts and liaising with external auditors. Qualifications include being fully CCAB qualified, having a full UK driving license, and five years of post-qualification experience. The role requires strong accounting knowledge and the ability to provide financial advice to leadership teams.

Qualifications

  • 5 years post CCAB qualification experience.
  • Experience in the public sector is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare the annual Statement of Accounts for each Council.
  • Develop the Final Accounts Timetable.
  • Oversee the maintenance of the Councils Fixed Asset Register.
  • Maintain and monitor the Councils grants register.
  • Act as an authorised signatory on the bank mandate.

Job description

We are working closely alongside with local authority in Bromsgrove District and Redditch to assist with the appointment of a Chief Accountant on a 5.5-month contract, highly likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration., The Chief Accountant is responsible for and accountable to the Assistant Director Finance and Customer Services for the programming, administration, quality, and control of the work of the Business Support team and the Technical Accounts, including the Treasury Management function,

  • Prepare the annual Statement of Accounts for each Council in accordance with current International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and the Statement of Recommended Practice, meeting all statutory deadlines
  • Develop the Final Accounts Timetable, ensure roles and responsibilities are clear, and achieve all deadlines
  • Liaise with external auditors regarding the approval of the annual Statement of Accounts and changes in accounting requirements
  • Oversee the maintenance of the Councils Fixed Asset Register to ensure the depreciation charge is correctly maintained.
  • Maintain and monitor the Councils grants register and ensure all external funding is correctly receipted, recorded, and allocated
  • Provide advice to Service Managers, Assistant Directors, and the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) on accounting systems in accordance with Financial Regulations.
  • Act as an authorised signatory on the bank mandate to authorise the payment of invoices and purchase requisitions
    Fully CCAB qualified
  • Full UK Driving Licence
  • 5 GCSE grades A-C including Maths and English
  • 5 years post CCAB qualification experience
  • Experience of producing Statement of Accounts.
