Chemical Production Technician
Salary: £42,000 per annum (dependent on skills and experience). Hours: 37 hours per week. Location: Walsall.
The Role
As the Chemical Production Technician, you will lead performance improvement initiatives across South Staffs Water’s fluoridation assets and activities. You will be the primary point of contact for all fluoridation matters, driving strategic delivery, ensuring regulatory compliance, and fostering best practice across the organisation and industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the lead internal and external contact for fluoridation‑related matters.
- Develop and deliver the strategic fluoridation performance improvement plan in alignment with DHSC objectives.
- Collaborate with Water Quality scientists, Production, and CID teams to investigate issues and implement corrective actions.
- Monitor, analyse, and report fluoridation performance data across all levels.
- Support commissioning and delivery of refurbishment/improvement projects, ensuring regulatory and treatment standards are met.
- Coordinate company inputs for routine liaison meetings with DHSC and Local Authorities.
- Represent South Staffs Water in cross‑industry and regulatory forums, embedding best practices into company operations.
- Design and deliver fluoridation‑specific training aligned with the competent operator scheme.
- Maintain and update water quality procedures, policies, and standards in collaboration with the Strategy and Risk Manager.
- Advise the Water Quality Steering Group on fluoridation concerns and strategic mitigation plans.
- Ensure accurate cost capture for fluoridation activities in partnership with Finance.
What You’ll Need
- Strong technical knowledge of water treatment and chemical dosing practices.
- Familiarity with DWI regulations and fluoridation compliance standards.
- Proven ability to analyse performance data and identify improvement opportunities.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills across all levels.
- Self‑motivated, adaptable, and capable of working independently.
- PC literate with strong data analysis capabilities.
- Full valid UK driving licence and ability to conduct site audits.
Education & Qualifications
- Degree or HND in a relevant scientific or engineering discipline.
- Prior experience in water treatment or fluoridation operations.
- Understanding of water industry processes from source to tap (desirable).
- Knowledge of water quality regulations and fluoridation code of practice (desirable).
- Familiarity with DHSC’s role in fluoridation governance (desirable).
