Job summary

Altilium is seeking Proactive Pilot Plant Chemical Process Technicians for its Plymouth EV Battery Recycling Plant. The role involves supporting commissioning, running pilot-scale equipment, and ensuring safe chemical processing. Full training provided; opportunities to grow in a rapidly expanding clean-tech sector.

Ideal candidates have hands-on manufacturing or engineering exposure, are comfortable with PPE and safety protocols, and can work physically in a lab-to-plant environment.

Qualifications

• Background in chemistry, manufacturing or engineering preferred.
• Familiarity with RAMS and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
• COSHH experience and understanding.

Responsibilities

• Chemical handling, sampling and inventory management with full training provided.
• Offload and store chemical supplies safely using PPE and safety protocols.
• Assist in installation, setup and maintenance of equipment.
• Operate processing equipment with precision and care.
• Perform checks and troubleshoot to ensure smooth operations.
• Support safe working environment by following PPE and safety protocols.

Job Title:Chemical Process TechnicianPay:£28,000.00 - £36,000.00 per yearWork Location: In person, full time

The Role:

The Role includes regular physical activity, including lifting and bending, working at height using ladders and mobile towers and wearing Respiratory Protective Equipment (RPE) along with other personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.

We’re looking for proactive, hands-on and safety-focused individuals to join us as Pilot Plant Chemical Process Technicians at Altilium’s EV Battery Recycling Plant in Plymouth.

You’ll join an ambitious, diverse and driven team, supporting the commissioning phase into full pilot operations, testing equipment to support the day-to-day running of the chemical processing plant.

You’ll help run and maintain pilot-scale equipment, solve day-to-day challenges, maintenance and support the Chemical Process Engineers.

Your responsibilities will include safely handling materials, feeding and monitoring the extraction process, carrying out sampling activities and supporting the production of high-quality recovered battery materials. Full training will be provided.

What You’ll Do:

• Chemical handling, sampling and inventory management. Full training will be provided

• Assist in the installation, setup, and maintenance of equipment
• Operate processing equipment with precision and care
• Perform checks and troubleshoot issues to ensure smooth operations
• Help ensure a safe working environment by adhering to all safety protocols and wearing necessary PPE
• Active participation in emergency response protocols.

Whether you\'re a chemistry graduate looking to begin your industrial career or someone with hands-on experience in manufacturing, engineering or chemical processing, you\'ll bring a willingness to learn, a proactive attitude and pride in doing the job well.

Health and Safety:

• Familiarity working under RAMS & standard operating procedures
• Confident following HSE procedures and protocols to ensure a safe and efficient working environment
• COSHH experience and understanding
• Manual handling experience
• A commitment to wearing full PPE (including Respiratory Protective Equipment)

Operational Skills:

• A background in mechanical, pneumatic and / or hydraulic process equipment and / or experience in chemical handling would be advantageous
• Proficiency in forklift / telehandling or IPAF operations (license is desirable)
• LOLER understanding (desirable)
• Familiarity with machines and equipment used in industrial or manufacturing processes (desirable)
• Ability to work using full PPE and RPE

Emergency Preparedness:

• Understanding of emergency procedures
• Knowledge of risk management
• Proactive in identifying and reporting hazards

EV batteries, even after their life in vehicles, still contain important minerals like lithium, cobalt, nickel, manganese and graphite. These minerals are essential for making new batteries but are limited and often come from virgin mining, which uses a lot of resources and creates environmental impact.
