Job description

Visa Sponsorship: Available after 12 months of employment, subject to satisfactory performance, business needs, and UK immigration requirements.

About Vateris

Vateris is a climate technology company developing breakthrough processes to capture and permanently mineralise CO₂ into high-performance construction materials. Our technology reduces the carbon footprint of concrete while improving its performance

Following a successful 10× scale-up of our technology, we are commissioning a pilot plant in Nottingham using real industrial flue gas to support the development of our first commercial demonstrator. Working alongside leading industrial partners and UK universities, we are accelerating the decarbonisation of the construction industry

The Role

We are seeking a Chemical Engineer to support pilot plant operations, process development and technology scale-up. Working closely with our engineering and R&D teams, you will operate and optimise pilot plant processes, develop CO₂-derived construction materials, and contribute to scaling our technology from laboratory development to commercial deployment

This is an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience in pilot plant commissioning, process optimisation, chemical manufacturing and technology commercialisation within a fast-growing climate technology company

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the operation, monitoring and optimisation of the pilot plant
  • Operate and optimise the production of CO₂-derived construction materials and chemical products
  • Operate laboratory and pilot-scale equipment, including reactors, pumps, filtration systems, mixers and associated process equipment
  • Design and conduct laboratory and pilot-scale experiments to support process development and optimisation
  • Monitor process performance, analyse operational data and identify opportunities for process improvement
  • Assist with pilot plant commissioning, equipment maintenance, troubleshooting and continuous improvement activities
  • Prepare technical reports, engineering documentation and operating procedures
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental procedures
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering and R&D teams to support technology scale-up and commercial deployment
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering or a closely related discipline
  • Experience in laboratory, pilot plant, manufacturing or process engineering environments through employment, industrial placements or research projects
  • Strong understanding of chemical engineering principles, including reaction engineering, mass transfer and process operations
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, organisational and communication skills
  • Proactive attitude with a willingness to undertake hands-on engineering work
  • Experience operating pilot plants or industrial process equipment
  • Knowledge of reaction engineering, separation processes or chemical manufacturing
  • Familiarity with pumps, valves, instrumentation and process control systems
  • Experience with laboratory testing, process monitoring and data analysis
  • Understanding of carbon capture, CO₂ utilisation, mineralisation or sustainable process technologies
  • Familiarity with process flow diagrams (PFDs), P&IDs and process safety principles
What We Offer
  • Hands-on experience with an innovative climate technology company
  • Direct involvement in commissioning and operating an industrial pilot plant
  • Mentoring from experienced engineers and scientists
  • Exposure to leading industrial partners, research organisations and commercial customers
  • Opportunity to contribute to the commercialisation of breakthrough carbon capture and mineralisation technology
  • Career development with the potential to progress into senior engineering roles
  • Visa sponsorship available after 12 months of employment, subject to business needs and UK immigration requirements
