Job description

HMPPS Newbold Rugby is seeking a motivated and experienced Chef Supervisor to join our catering team. You will lead and support a team of chefs in delivering high-quality meals while maintaining exceptional standards of hygiene, safety, and service. Responsibilities
  • Continue to develop your skills and knowledge within the position, including completing any required training courses.
  • Maintain excellent client/customer relationships.
  • Attend, organise, and run team briefs, huddles, and meetings as required.
  • Participate in performance development reviews to discuss job standards and agree development activities.
  • Maintain a clean and tidy work area at all times.
  • Maintain high levels of personal hygiene and wear appropriate uniform and PPE.
  • Care for all available resources, including equipment, materials, and supplies.
  • Report near misses, accidents, safety observations, or faulty equipment to management.
  • Ensure effective communication with line manager, team, customers, and client organisation.
  • Maintain all areas of responsibility to set service standards.
  • Supervise the team fairly, promoting engagement and a positive working environment.
  • Train and guide new and existing chefs.
  • Handle and secure all stock and equipment within the department, including:
    • Supervise ingredient consumption in line with recipe cards, ensuring economy and preventing waste.
    • Understand menu planning and food ordering.
    • Manage Recipe on Line system and ensure menus and recipes are followed.
    • Ensure meal services are fresh, high-quality, and consistent for all customers.
  • Previous experience in catering in a supervisory capacity.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work on own initiative within a team environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and adherence to standards.
  • Knowledge/qualification in Health & Safety and Food Safety.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Qualifications
  • Relevant qualifications (BSC Catering, MHCIM, HND, City & Guild 706/1 & 2, NVQ Level 2 & 3) and intermediate food safety course.
  • Experience in volume cooking with comprehensive knowledge of food production methods.
  • Previous experience supervising a team effectively.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and knowledge.
Desirable Qualifications
  • CIEH Level 3 qualification or equivalent.
  • Strong analytical skills, able to develop opportunities and implement innovative solutions.
  • IOSH qualification or equivalent.
  • Barista training.
Working Hours and Pay

40 Hours per week.

Monday to Thursday 09.30-20.00.

£14.25 per hour.

Location and Vehicle

Driver’s licence and access to own vehicle preferable for this role due to the rural location.
