Job description
Overview

Chef - Care Home (CM24)

37.5 hours per week | £16.00 per hour (Trainee rate £14.50 per hour). Hours: 7:00am - 3:00pm, working alternate weekends.

We are looking for a Chef to join our friendly team at a care home based in the CM24 area of Essex. The successful candidate will oversee the daily running of the kitchen, supervise kitchen staff, and help plan and prepare nutritious meals for our elderly residents.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare and cook meals to a high standard, following dietary and nutritional requirements
  • Plan and develop menus with input from the team and residents
  • Supervise and support kitchen staff to ensure smooth daily service
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organised kitchen in line with food hygiene regulations
  • Manage stock levels, place food orders, and control waste
  • Ensure special diets and texture-modified meals are prepared correctly
  • Monitor portion control and presentation standards
  • Follow all health and safety, food hygiene, and infection control procedures
Requirements
  • Ideally hold a Level 3 Food Hygiene or equivalent qualification (training can be provided)
  • Experience working as a Chef or Cook, preferably in a care or healthcare setting
  • Good knowledge of different diets, including liquid and texture-modified diets
  • Confident in supervising a small team and managing kitchen operations
  • Reliable, organised, and passionate about providing high-quality meals
  • Available to work alternate weekends

We are also open to considering candidates with less experience who are willing to learn. In this case, the role will be offered as a Cook position at £14.50 per hour with support and training provided.

Ideally we're looking for someone with strong leadership skills who's able to adapt menu items to suit the needs of specific residents. The care home is relatively small, so focus on the quality of food is of upmost importance. This will give you a chance to do the job you love, without the pressure of feeding hundreds of people and having a large menu to work from. Creative input is more than welcome.
