Job Summary
Spire South Bank Hospital has an exciting opportunity for a Chef to join the team on a permanent basis. As Chef, you will be responsible for supervising, preparing, presenting and coordinating the day-to-day delivery of high quality food and beverage. You will ensure all work is carried out in a hygienic and methodical manner at all times and take over duties in the absence of the Senior Chef.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Head Chef as directed with preparation of food, including peeling and chopping of vegetables.
- Prepare meals and cook food items agreed upon with the Head Chef and catering assistants, presenting and serving to staff, patients and consultants to the specified standard.
- Assist, when required, with the service of food to staff, consultants, visitors and patients in the restaurant, coffee shop and wards.
- Pro‑actively engage with patients to raise awareness of the food and beverage service that can be tailored to suit their individual needs.
- Takes orders from customers regarding food and beverage requests, adhering to any special dietary requirements or specific needs.
- Serves on the till and performs cash‑up duties when required.
- Maintains adequate control of all stock through stock rotation, date checking and ensuring packaging is intact.
- Complies with health and safety procedures in accordance with current legislation.
- Performs cleaning of the kitchen area, staff restaurant, coffee shop and beverage bay areas and washing‑up duties associated with a large commercial kitchen in accordance with a scheduled list of works.
- Maintains a high standard of cleanliness and hygiene in all tasks and duties.
- Carries out any reasonable request by management relating to the efficient operation of the catering department.
Qualifications
- Basic food hygiene certificate.
- Catering certificates.
- Previous experience working in the healthcare/hospital industry or a similar large-scale catering environment.
- Experience working in a kitchen environment, cooking for large numbers of people and able to take direction and guidance from the Head Chef and 2nd Chef within the kitchen area.
- Experience working in a restaurant‑style kitchen, wards and with visitors.
