Chef – Buchanan Lodge Care Home | £13.52 per hour | 40 hours per week

Nestled in the quiet, leafy suburb of Bearsden in North Glasgow, Buchanan Lodge Care Home is a thoughtfully converted former convent, blending historic charm with modern comforts. We provide Residential, Nursing, Respite, and Dementia care for 38 residents, and we also support an on-site Nursery, providing meals for up to 70 children. We’re looking for a talented Chef to join our kitchen team, supporting the Head Chef to create seasonal menus and leading our team in a fast-paced, rewarding environment.

Contract details:

  • £13.52 per hour
  • 40 hours per week, daytime shifts – no unsociable late nights
  • 5.6 weeks annual leave (full-time)

The role

As Chef, your cooking will do more than fill plates it will bring comfort, nourishment, and joy. Working alongside the Head Chef, you will:

  • Support the creation of seasonal, nutritious menus for residents and children.
  • Lead the kitchen team day-to-day, ensuring smooth operations and high standards of hygiene.
  • Mentor and develop trainee chefs and kitchen assistants.
  • Prepare and serve meals to meet dietary requirements, including IDDSI and specialist diets (training provided).
  • Manage stock, maintain kitchen organisation, and uphold health & safety standards.
  • Opportunity to work in a supportive, fast-paced kitchen serving both residents and children.
  • Team development – help mentor trainee chefs and kitchen assistants.

What we’re looking for

  • A relevant culinary qualification or equivalent experience.
  • Basic Food Hygiene Certificate and understanding of food safety.
  • Strong team leadership skills, with a passion for developing others.
  • Experience in a care or hospitality kitchen is beneficial but not essential.
  • Knowledge of IDDSI and dietary requirements is an advantage (training will be provided).
