Whitlingham Ward is part of NSFT’s Secure Services, providing specialist care for women with complex mental health needs. We are committed to reducing health inequalities and delivering holistic, trauma‑informed care that empowers our service users. Our team is innovative, compassionate, and driven by a shared mission to improve outcomes for those with severe and enduring mental illness.

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Charge Nurse to join our multidisciplinary team. You will play a key role in leading nursing practice, supporting junior staff, and ensuring high standards of physical and mental health care. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a forward‑thinking service that values innovation, education, and person‑centred care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and coordinate nursing care on the ward, ensuring safety, dignity, and therapeutic engagement.
  • Support physical health initiatives to improve health inequalities for women in forensic inpatient settings.
  • Promote health literacy through ward‑based activities such as the women’s group, awareness weeks, and targeted education.
  • Collaborate with the ward multi‑disciplinary team to deliver onsite health interventions.
  • Champion trauma‑informed care and contribute to service development and improvement projects.
  • Mentor and support junior staff and students, fostering a culture of learning and excellence.
  • Promote and reinforce good quality governance processes, inline with NSFT governance model.
  • Champion platforms for service user, carers and staff collaboration and feedback in the future development of Whitlingham wards processes and environment.
  • Provide line management for junior staff and support their accountability to good quality patient care.
