Whitlingham Ward is part of NSFT's Secure Services, providing specialist care for women with complex mental health needs. We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Charge Nurse to join our multidisciplinary team. You will play a key role in leading nursing practice, supporting junior staff, and ensuring high standards of physical and mental health care. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a forward-thinking service that values innovation, education, and person-centred care.

Main duties of the job

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate nursing care on the ward, ensuring safety, dignity, and therapeutic engagement.
  • Support physical health initiatives to improve health inequalities for women in forensic inpatient settings.
  • Promote health literacy through ward-based activities such as the women's group, awareness weeks, and targeted education.
  • Collaborate with the ward multi-disciplinary team to deliver onsite health interventions.
  • Champion trauma-informed care and contribute to service development and improvement projects.
  • Mentor and support junior staff and students, fostering a culture of learning and excellence.
  • Promote and reinforce good quality governance processes, inline with NSFT governance model.
  • Champion platforms for service user, carers and staff collaboration and feedback in the future development of Whitlingham wards processes and environment.
  • Provide line management for junior staff and support their accountability to good quality patient care.

  • RMN registration with the NMC
  • Mental health Inpatient experience at Staff nurse level
