Overview
Preparing the OR for gynecological procedures, assisting surgeons, monitoring patients during surgery, providing post-operative care, maintaining a sterile environment, documenting patient information, and educating patients on pre- and post-operative care. The role also involves patient advocacy, comprehensive documentation, and collaboration with the multidisciplinary team to ensure high-quality, patient-centered care.
Responsibilities
- Operating Room Preparation: Setting up the surgical suite with necessary equipment and supplies for gynecological procedures.
- Surgical Assistance: Collaborating closely with surgeons and anesthesiologists during procedures, ensuring a sterile field is maintained.
- Patient Monitoring: Continuously monitoring patient vital signs, condition, and reactions during and after surgery.
- Post-Operative Care: Providing immediate post-operative care, including wound care and pain management, and educating patients on recovery at home.
- Sterile Environment: Strictly adhering to aseptic techniques to prevent infection and maintain a sterile environment in the OR.
- Documentation: Accurately documenting all aspects of patient care, including surgical procedures, medications, and patient responses.
- Patient & Family Education: Educating patients and their families about the surgical process, what to expect during recovery, and post-operative care instructions.
- Patient Advocacy: Acting as a patient advocate, ensuring their rights and preferences are respected throughout their surgical journey.
- Team Collaboration: Working effectively with the multidisciplinary team, including physicians, other nurses, and support staff, to ensure seamless and comprehensive patient care.
- Maintaining Standards: Adhering to hospital policies, professional standards, and best practices in nursing and surgical care.
