3:00 p.m.-11:00 p.m. EOW/EOH

Primary Function

Responsible for performing various patient care activities and related non-professional services to care for the personnel needs and comforts of patients. Responsible for transcribing physician orders, performing receptionist, clerical duties and coordinating non-nursing services within unit. Work under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse and observe all hospital policies and procedures.

Responsibilities
  • Provide general patient care, assist with personal hygiene and perform routine activities as directed by the Registered Nurse.
  • Initiate, assemble and maintain accurate functional chats for all patients in the assigned unit. Transcribe written physician orders and complete all necessary forms, requisitions and communications necessary to implement orders and record clinical data, such as vital signs received from the nursing unit.
  • Maintain patient’s medical records in an orderly manner and document all care provided and significant information, legibly, accurately and completely.
  • Observe assigned patients and report any patient care problems, change in patient condition or unexpected occurrences to RN/Team Leader.
  • Maintain a proper inventory of supplies needed in order to provide continuous service, minimizing downtime and maintain a safe, clean and functional working environment in the nursing station and nursing area.
  • Screen visitors, telephone calls, incoming mail and other correspondence. Answer inquiries on procedures and policies relating to departmental functions.
  • Prepare patient chart and deliver to Medical Records upon discharge of patient, or to the Nursing office upon expiration of the patient.
  • Maintain up-to-date records on computer for Bed Management.
  • Access lab results from the computer for the physician.
  • File documents following standard procedures.
  • Give enemas, reinforce simple non-sterile dressings, apply binders, collect specimens, apply heat or cold devices and perform other routine tasks.
  • Assist the RN or LPN in caring for seriously ill patients or in complicated treatments or procedures.
  • Maintain current knowledge of specialty by attending seminars, in-services and reading journals.
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications and Requirements

Vocational/technical training and more than six months job-related experience or equivalent is required. Certified Nursing Assistant Certification, basic computer skills and medical terminology and also required.
