Job summary

Purcell is seeking a CDM Advisor to join our London studios on permanent, full-time basis. The role focuses on Health and Safety risk management, CDM duties and delivering design-team support across projects in the UK. The successful candidate will work with senior staff in a collaborative, employee-owned culture.

Responsibilities

  • Advise design team and clients on Health and Safety risk management and statutory duties.
  • Discharge duties as Principal Designer under UK CDM regulations.
  • Support in-house design teams to promote best practice standards.
  • Assist with Pre-construction Information and Health and Safety File development.
  • Contribute to guidance and management material.

We are looking for a CDM Advisor to join our team in our studios. We are looking for a results driven, tenacious, go getter to take on managing a mixture of bespoke architectural projects whilst also delivering new business. We are a progressive practice, so you’ll need to understand our culture and strategy, identify opportunities and be responsible for developing staff. Reporting to a Senior CDM Advisor, you will hold the following responsibilities:

  • For allocated projects, advise design team members and client organisations on Health and Safety risk management matters and on statutory duties.
  • Carry out, and support teams at Purcell, to discharge duties as Principal Designer in accordance with current UK CDM regulations.
  • Assist and provide support and advice to in-house design teams to facilitate office wide best practice standards irrespective of global location.
  • Support the Senior CDM Advisors with project and design reviews (planned and ad-hoc) prioritising CDM PD appointed projects and advising on any other projects to allow office wide consistency on Pre-construction Health and Safety matters and standards.
  • Collate, organise, and assist the client in providing Pre-Construction Information.
  • Support the management and co-ordination of Health and Safety aspects during the pre-construction phase.
  • Assist with the preparation, coordination, information gathering for the development of the Health and Safety File.
  • Assist with compiling and developing guidance and management material.
  • Carry out research on application of Health and Safety Standards (National and International) and good practice.
  • Critically appraise Design Risk Assessments submitted by Project Design Team.
  • Thorough knowledge of and compliance with CDM Regulations and Purcell procedures and standards.
  • Contribute or otherwise assist, as required.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Demonstrate an ability to undertake the above responsibilities.
  • Demonstrate experience and understanding of design and construction management and methodologies.
  • Proven skills in the delivery of CDM/H&S consultancy services.
  • Legally able to work in the UK.
  • Computer Literate.
  • Pragmatic, resourceful and persuasive.
  • Able to manage and prioritise tasks and time efficiently.
  • Resilience to cope with conflicting demands.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills – articulate and diplomatic manner.
  • Fluency in both written and spoken English.
  • Able to manage sensitive and sometimes confidential information.
  • Able and willing to travel to other studios or sites in other Purcell UK regions as required.
  • Able to demonstrate initiative and proactive approach to daily tasks.
  • Methodical, accurate and consistent attention to detail.
  • Design experience preferable.
  • Self-motivated and able to take responsibility.
  • Good interpersonal skills and able to work independent and as part of an effective Team.
  • Able to build good relationships at all levels, internally and externally.
  • NEBOSH Diploma preferable, Construction Certificate will be considered.
  • Member of IOSH working towards Chartership
