Job description

Join our supportive CCTV team delivering essential public safety and Out of Hours (OOH) services across two local authorities.

We're looking for vigilant, reliable, and customer-focused individuals to join our bank (casual) pool of CCTV Operators, providing flexible support to our Shared Service Control Room, which operates on behalf of Fenland District Council and Peterborough City Council.

As part of the bank team, you'll provide ad‑hoc shift cover and additional support during busy periods, staff absences, or operational surges. This is an as‑and‑when‑required position, ideal for those seeking flexible working arrangements within a dynamic, safety‑critical environment.

Whether you have previous experience or transferable skills, full training will be provided, and you'll play a key role in keeping our communities safe while supporting a high‑performing control room team.

What you'll be doing
  • Monitoring CCTV systems and public space surveillance cameras across both council areas
  • Identifying and reporting incidents in real time to the police and emergency services
  • Logging detailed incident reports and preparing evidential footage when required
  • Handling Out of Hours (OOH) customer calls and logging service requests or emergency callouts for both councils
  • Responding to lone worker alarms and emergency alerts
  • Carrying out routine system checks to ensure equipment and camera functionality
  • Maintaining high standards of confidentiality, accuracy, and professionalism
  • Supporting other control room and remote site security functions as needed
What we're looking for
  • Excellent observation skills and strong attention to detail
  • Confidence when handling both public safety incidents and customer‑facing OOH calls
  • A calm and professional approach under pressure, especially during live or emergency situations
  • Clear and effective communication skills - both written and verbal
  • Basic IT skills and a willingness to learn new systems and procedures
  • Ability to follow protocols, execute issues appropriately, and work independently
  • Previous experience in a control room, contact centre, or emergency services setting is desirable but not essential - full training is provided
Security clearance and licensing requirements

Due to the sensitive nature of this role, successful applicants must:

  • Undergo Non‑Police Personnel Vetting (NPPV Level 2) clearance
  • Pass a DBS check
  • Hold or be willing to obtain a Public Space Surveillance (CCTV) SIA licence (Training and support may be provided for suitable candidates)

Please note: Failure to obtain or maintain the required vetting and licensing may affect your ability to be deployed in this role.

What we offer

  • A flexible, shift‑based role to suit your availability and work‑life balance
  • A supportive and professional team environment
  • Opportunities to gain valuable experience in a public safety and emergency response setting
  • The chance to make a genuine difference to community safety across both local authority areas

Ready to apply?

  • If you're looking for rewarding, flexible work that supports community safety and frontline services, we'd love to hear from you.
