Position: Principally Appointed Person – Lifting & Hoisting

We are looking for a qualified Principal Appointed Person to oversee all lifting and hoisting activities across multiple project sites. The role ensures safe, efficient and compliant operations, managing teams, equipment inspections, and risk for heavy lifting projects in the civil engineering sector.

Responsibilities
  • Plan, coordinate and execute all lifting and hoisting activities across sites.
  • Ensure lifting operations are conducted safely, efficiently and comply with legislation, company policies and project specifications.
  • Oversee crane operations and lifting teams.
  • Manage equipment inspections and maintenance.
  • Implement and monitor risk management protocols for all heavy lifting activities.
  • Lead multi‑site work, often requiring shift and weekend work, travel between projects, and physically demanding tasks in high‑risk environments.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Extensive experience in lifting operations within construction or civil engineering.
  • Recognised certification as Appointed Person for Lifting Operations (e.g., CPCS A61 or NPORS equivalent).
  • NVQ Level 5 Diploma in Controlling Lifting Operations – Planning Lifts.
  • ECITB Level 3 Diploma in Engineering Construction – Rigging or Erecting Pathway (desirable).
  • In‑depth knowledge of relevant regulations and standards (LOLER, PUWER, BS 7121, CDM Regulations, WAH regulations).
  • Experience on major construction sites such as infrastructure projects – bridges, high‑rises, highways, rail, tunnels.
  • Marine experience with barges (Barges, Spud Barges, Jack‑up Barges).
  • Proven leadership managing multi‑disciplinary lifting teams.
  • Strong planning and organisational skills.
  • Temporary Works Coordinator experience.
  • First Aid certification.
  • Ability to establish mentorship requirements and assess company AP capabilities.
