Catering Supervisor

We have a position available for a catering supervisor to join the team at Cramlington hospital. As part of this role you will be required to maintain the standards of cleanliness as specified throughout the work areas, by means of approved methods.

Please note that it is a requirement of NHFML that all successful applicants pay for their own DBS certificate, if a DBS check is required for the post. The method of payment is a salary deduction from your first monthly pay.

Main duties of the job
  • Receiving, checking for quality, temperature and correct quantity as per order to suppliers and storing such goods in the appropriate area within the time limits set out in the department policy on Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP).
  • Demonstrating the ability to serve food to staff and to check temperature levels and be aware of the Food Temperature Regulations.
  • Operating the central dish wash machine, cleaning, drying and checking of the staff/ward crockery and cutlery.
  • Preparation of vegetables, fruits and salads.
  • Preparation and dispatch of meals.
  • Service of food in restaurant.
  • Service of food in the Dining Room and associated areas and preparation of sandwiches, hot snacks and beverages where applicable.
  • Cleaning and re‑stocking of vending machines.
  • Operation of the Staff Dining Room cash register.
  • Accurate supervision and direction of all Coffee Shop/Barista assistants, ensuring a high‑quality, efficient, customer‑orientated catering service and compliance with the Trust Patient Confidentiality Policy.

Job Responsibilities
  • Provide a high‑quality catering service for patients, staff and visitors trust‑wide.
  • Maintain a high standard service and quality of food and beverages, including standards of hygiene, HACCP, COSHH and adherence to all Trust policies.
  • Be responsible for simple preparation, cooking and dispatch of all types of meals, whether fresh, frozen or chilled.
  • Act as working supervisor assisting with all catering duties and to assist in the co‑ordination of the Catering Services to the Hotel Services Officer.
  • Check and account for cash and vouchers, keep records and continuously update the Function Diary.
  • Oversee the replenishing and maintenance of automatic vending machines. Must have a sound knowledge of stock control procedures.
  • Be flexible in working arrangements and undertake any other duties as may be required. Willing to undertake training that is deemed necessary by the Catering Superintendent /Hotel Services Officer.
  • Deploy staff efficiently and effectively.
  • Administer the Staff Rostering system.
  • Undertake Return to Work meetings with staff following sickness absence.
  • Lead a successful programme of duties associated with staff management such as administration, training and development, appraisal, counselling.
  • Check and maintain all catering equipment and the maintenance of service/report schedules.
  • Provide on‑the‑job training to staff to ensure correct methods and working practices. Give sufficient close supervision and training to new staff until the required standard of work is achieved.
  • Respond to low‑level complaints in an effective and professional manner to a successful resolution.
  • Ensure that appraisals and statutory and mandatory training are complete in their designated staff group.
  • Regularly complete quality control sheets in accordance with quality control procedures.
  • Assist staff in recording incidents via the Datix system.
