Job summary

Compass Group UK & Ireland is hiring a Catering Assistant at National Railway Museum, York. This part-time, permanent role offers 25 hours per week over 3 days, with weekend working (Fri–Sun) and a salary of £12.71 per hour plus paid overtime (minimum 25 hours guaranteed).

You’ll support day-to-day café operations, deliver friendly customer service and keep front-of-house areas clean and welcoming for visitors.

Qualifications

• Experience in a café, restaurant or catering environment.
• Friendly, approachable and committed to great customer service.
• Confident working in a fast-paced, visitor-focused environment.
• Able to follow instructions and work well as part of a team.
• Good communication skills and a positive can-do attitude.
• Understanding of food safety and hygiene practices (training provided).
• Flexible and reliable, with the ability to work weekends and busy peak periods.

• Operate tills accurately and handle transactions responsibly

• Assist with cleaning and general upkeep of service areas
• Help with opening and closing duties as required
• Contribute to sales promotions and deliver positive visitor experiences
• Support service during special events as part of an all-round catering team
