To assess learners undertaking Level 1 Catering, Hospitality and Tourism and Level 2 Catering qualifications, ensuring the effective and fair assessment of both theory and practical skills through portfolio-based evidence. This role focuses on marking and assessment activities.
Tasks
- Conduct and mark assessments for Level 1 Catering, Hospitality and Tourism and Level 2 Catering qualifications in line with awarding organisation requirements.
- Assess both theoretical knowledge and practical competencies through portfolio-based evidence, ensuring validity, reliability, and authenticity of learner work.
- Deliver assessment processes in accordance with Step into Learning and awarding organisation standards.
- Provide timely, constructive, and developmental feedback to learners on progress and achievement.
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive records of formative and summative assessments.
- Ensure assessment decisions are supported by sufficient and appropriate portfolio evidence.
- Support learners in compiling and presenting evidence to meet assessment criteria.
- Ensure a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment for all learners.
- Identify and co-ordinate support for learners with individual needs.
- Promote equality, diversity, and inclusion in all aspects of assessment and learner engagement.
- Encourage learners to give feedback on their learning experience and use this to enhance programme delivery.
- Contribute to course review and evaluation processes to support continuous improvement.
- Act as a key point of contact for communications to and from learners while contracted.
- Undertake any other related duties as reasonably required by the Head of Centre or Executive Director
Requirements
Key qualification, skills and experience
- Level 3 Assessor Award or equivalent
- Level 2 qualification in food safety or food hygiene
- Experience of carrying out standardisation activities
- Qualification or industry experience in catering
- An understanding of the principles of assessment and quality assurance
- Ability to prioritise and self-manage
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Strong interpersonal skills and relationship management
- Attention to detail
