Job summary

Comxps Ltd, on behalf of a government client, is recruiting an experienced Category Manager for a 6-month contract in Bristol or London, hybrid with a minimum of one day per week in Bristol (Wednesdays). Security clearance SC or eligible is required to proceed.

You will apply category management principles to high-value, mission-critical programmes, build category strategies, manage stakeholders, and drive benefits across complex delivery environments.

Qualifications

• 5+ years' experience as Category Manager.
• Experience building Category Strategy in complex programmes.
• Strong stakeholder management and engagement skills.
• Experience running large Programmes / Projects.
• MS Office / PowerPoint competent.

Salary: £To be confirmed on application (our client has asked for this not to be advertised).

Location: Bristol / London - Hybrid – Min 1 day per week (Wednesday) in Bristol and as required for business needs.

Contracting Authority: Government Client

Contract Length: 6 months (Possibility of extension)

Clearance: SC or eligible and willing to be put through SC.

Top essential criteria

1. Experienced Category Manager – 5+ years who understands the fundamentals of building front end Category Strategy
2. Strong stakeholder Management, Influencing, and Engagement skills.
3. Experience within one or more strategically important category areas below:
   • Lethality (Weapons)
   • Marine (e.g. shipbuilding, Fleet support, Babcock, BAE Systems)
   • Direct
   • Operational and General categories

Essential Criteria

• Experienced Category Manager with 5+ years' experience.
• Ability to apply category management principles within complex, high-value and mission-critical environments.
• Understands fundamentals of building Category Strategy
• Experience running large Programmes / Projects
• Strong stakeholder Management and Engagement skills.
  • Politely tenacious to move things along.
  • High levels of influencing skills
• Consultative nature but also able to roll sleeves up, get stuck in and get things done.
  • Positive ‘can-do’ attitude
• Track record of delivering benefits (full range of non-financial and financial benefits) through category management interventions within a complex project/programme delivery environment.
• MS Office / PowerPoint competent

Desirable

• CIPS but experience is more important.
• An understanding of the Defence Industry, supply chains and/or deep knowledge in related categories e.g. autonomous systems, weapons systems, sense decide & communicating systems, power propulsion & auxiliary systems, would be an advantage.
