Job Opportunity:

BHSI is seeking a technically minded and passionate Catastrophe Risk Analyst with a background in engineering or science to join our Catastrophe Engineering and Analytics (CAT E&A) team. CAT E&A is an innovative and versatile technical team that conducts CAT-risk evaluations for traditional and parametric insurance solutions, develops independent risk models, and provides quantitative loss metrics to inform underwriting decisions. This opportunity is in our London/European offices.


Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Utilizing proprietary and market catastrophe models to evaluate and develop insights for a diverse range of requests for quotes for catastrophe risks such as, but not limited to, earthquakes, tropical cyclones, severe convective storms, floods, wildfires, cyber attacks etc.

  • Structure and evaluate technical pricing metrics for parametric insurance solutions (FastCAT) for catastrophe risks

  • Analyze and collect data sets from claims, insurance quotes, hazard models, structural analysis, geospatial sources, and various other public/proprietary datasets to help build catastrophe models and an understanding of structuring and pricing decisions

  • Develop and maintain expertise in catastrophe modelling and data science techniques, and their application to understanding risk

  • Work with domain experts across teams and perils to enhance our use of available data

  • Propose and execute innovative solutions to insurance problems that directly impact BHSI underwriting decisions


Qualifications, Skills and Experience:


  • B.S. or M.S. (preferred) in civil engineering, atmospheric science, earth science, actuarial science, mathematics, data science, or a related field

  • 1-3 years of industry experience is preferred

  • Advanced knowledge of probability theory, statistics, data science

  • Practical experience in insurance, catastrophe model development, infrastructure or community resilience, and/or exposure data collection

  • Experience applying probability and statistical techniques to structural performance, natural catastrophe hazard, building exposure data, or insurance claims data

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong programming skills (Python, R, MATLAB, SQL, GIS preferred)

  • Highly motivated, detail oriented, and team player
