You will also manage key relationships with third-party capacity providers and partners. This is an opportunity to play an influential role within a specialist casualty head office underwriting function, combining technical underwriting and people leadership with the chance to shape portfolio.

Why join us?

What you'll be doing
  • Underwriting Leadership - Provide visible technical leadership across Casualty and Financial Lines portfolio, acting as a senior referral and escalation point and promoting consistent, high-quality underwriting decisions
  • Portfolio Strategy & Performance - Translate portfolio strategy, risk appetite and performance priorities into clear underwriting actions across pricing, risk selection, appetite and portfolio mix. Use performance insight to identify emerging risks and opportunities and ensure appropriate action is taken.
  • Underwriting Quality & Discipline - Maintain high standards of underwriting quality, pricing discipline and coverage intent, ensuring that business or operational change does not inadvertently weaken agreed underwriting standards.
  • People Leadership & Capability - Lead, coach and develop Portfolio Underwriters and technical specialists, setting clear expectations and building a positive, accountable and collaborative team culture. Support technical development, authority progression and talent development.
  • Priorities & Delivery - Establish clear priorities for the team and coordinate resources and activity against portfolio and business needs. Lead or support strategic underwriting initiatives and identify opportunities to simplify processes and improve the underwriting journey.

Work with Product, Claims, Legal, Compliance and underwriting stakeholders to ensure coverage changes are appropriately understood, governed and implemented.
  • Third-Party & Capacity Relationships - Manage key relationships with third-party suppliers, capacity providers and other strategic partners, ensuring underwriting expectations, responsibilities and delivery requirements remain clear and appropriately governed.
What makes you stand out
  • Strong technical underwriting experience in casualty, financial lines or both, including experience of case underwriting and pricing
  • Experience of complex referrals and underwriting decisions.
  • Experience of leading, coaching and developing underwriting professionals.
  • A sound understanding of portfolio management, underwriting performance and governance frameworks.
  • The ability to manage competing priorities and contribute to projects or change initiatives.
  • Strong communication, analytical and stakeholder management skills.
Required Experience
