Job summary

Borough of Havant Sport and Leisure Trust is seeking a Casual Swim Teacher for Waterlooville to deliver Learn to Swim sessions under Swim England guidance. You will promote attendance and contribute to a safe, fun, and engaging environment for all swimmers.

Candidates should hold a Level 2 swimming qualification (ASA/STA), be CPR/CPD compliant, and bring strong communication and customer-service skills. The role may require travel to other company sites as needed.

Qualifications

• Qualified swimming teacher (ASA or STA) to Level 2.
• NPLQ or Teachers Pool Rescue/Pool Safety qualification.
• Current Child Protection CPD or equivalent.
• Level 2 Parent and Baby qualification (desirable).

Responsibilities

• Follow the Swim England syllabus, maximizing time and space while meeting needs.
• Prepare lesson plans in line with Swim England to provide high quality lessons.
• Maintain smooth movement of swimmers through continual assessment.
• Check and set up equipment, tidy away after sessions.
• Supervise arrivals, departures and attendance registers.
• Monitor class sizes and alert manager to issues.
• Complete Progress Reports using electronic tablets with constructive feedback.
• Ensure effective, regular communication with swimmers.
• Handle customer comments professionally and escalate when needed.
• Update customers with promotional materials and information.
• Attend internal training and CPD meetings; keep qualifications current.
• Provide thorough handovers when covering classes and understand NOP/EAP.
• Minimise health and safety risks and report incidents.

Your Role

To deliver a varied programme of swimming lessons within the class framework ensuring customers obtain the maximum benefit in a reasonable timescale, in a safe, fun and stimulating environment.

To promote and support the Swim School to ensure continued attendance of lessons throughout the year.

Your Team

You’ll be working within our Swim Team working with the Swim Coordinator and Aquatic Development Manager.

Your Responsibilities

• Follow the Swim England Syllabus, maximizing the time and space available whilst ensuring the individual and group needs are met every session.

• Prepare appropriate lesson plans in line with Swim England syllabus to provide high quality lessons as per Swim England guidelines.

• Ensure the smooth movement of swimmers within the programme through continuous assessment.

• Ensure the checking (reporting any defects), set up and put away of equipment securely and tidily before, during and after a session.

• Supervise the arrival, departure and handover of the lesson promptly and register all attendances.

• Monitor class sizes and unexpected arrivals and alert the Swim Coordinator/Manager at the earliest opportunity of any problems/queries.

• Complete regular Progress Reports using the electronic tablets on each individual swimmer ensuring they are detailed, positive and constructive.

• Ensure effective communication is used at all times and relevant for all swimmers with regular individual feedback.

• Deal politely with customer comments and complaints, to ensure excellent customer service, escalating when necessary.

• Ensure customers are updated with any promotional materials and information.

• Attend regular internal training sessions and teacher meetings.

• Ensure own qualifications are current and maintained – attend regular continual professional development meetings.

• Identify own training needs with the assistance of the Team Manager.

• Ensure you keep up to date with current good practice and policies and information available to you from the Swim School Management.

• Ensure a thorough handover is provided to any teachers covering classes in your absence.

• Ensure a comprehensive understanding of NOP and EAP and take action as necessary.

• Be responsible for minimising the environmental / health and safety risks in the workplace and for reporting potential risks, accidents and near misses to relevant managers.

Your Experience

• Experience of teaching within a Learn to Swim Programme.

• Experience of delivering high levels of customer service.

Your Qualifications

• Qualified swimming teacher (ASA or STA) to Level 2

• NPLQ or Teachers Pool Rescue/Pool Safety Qualified

• Current Child Protection CPD or equivalent

• Level 2 Parent and Baby qualified (desirable, not essential)

This role will be based at Waterlooville but will be expected to travel to other company site as the need requires.
