A community-focused organization in Nottingham is seeking a Casual Chef to join their team. The role involves preparing high-quality meals, providing catering for events, and developing seasonal menus using locally sourced ingredients. Candidates should have experience in a kitchen environment and a good understanding of hygiene practices. Flexibility in working hours is essential, as evenings and weekends are required.
The historic Malt Cross is an iconic bar and kitchen in the heart of Nottingham City Centre. The venue has been welcoming and serving customers to its famous bar for almost 150 years.
We are looking for a new Casual Chef to join our team, primarily Friday to Monday shifts but potential for growth and flexibility as we intend to grow the business in the future.
We are passionate about high quality food, made from locally sourced ingredients served in a welcoming, friendly, relaxed environment filled with great music and lively events.
As an independent venue, Malt Cross’s activity directly supports YMCA community projects in the city and across Nottinghamshire.
This is your chance to work for an organisation which makes a real difference to the local community, starting with our own YMCA projects.
We are looking for someone passionate about food and ingredients who has had experience as a Chef in a smaller kitchen environment. With experience in either café style kitchen or larger restaurant kitchen, you will be comfortable working as part of a small team where team spirit is everything.
This is a busy and varied role and you must be able to be flexible to meet the needs of the kitchen on any given day.
From your experience, you will have a strong awareness of current food industry product trends and a good working knowledge of Health and Safety and Food and Drink preparation practices; being Advance Hygiene Qualified or CIEH Level 2 Food Hygiene Qualified and/or holding NVQ Level 2.
Food Preparation or equivalent qualification is desirable.
As to be expected with a role of this nature, evenings and weekends shifts will form the majority of your shifts.
This post is subject to a satisfactory enhanced DBS check (paid for by YMCA) and registration with the DBS Update Service. We reserve the right to withdraw this role before the closing date should we be able to appoint to the role.
