Job summary

Barnsley Football Club’s Casual Academy Coach will deliver high-quality coaching sessions aligned with the Club’s Academy Coaching Curriculum, developing young players through age-appropriate training and matchday activities in line with the Club’s philosophies.

You will work within a multi-disciplinary environment, contribute to CPD, implement ILPs, and ensure compliance with EPPP and Football League rules across training and delivery.

Qualifications

  • Deliver coaching as per the Curriculum and Club philosophies
  • Adapt activities to age groups and abilities
  • Collaborate with Lead Phase Coaches on transitions
  • Implement Academy Performance Plan policies and practices
  • Comply with EPPP and Football League rules during training/matchday delivery
  • Integrate input from multi-disciplinary teams (e.g. sports science, education)
  • Meet planning/reporting/data-entry requirements in the PMA system
  • Attend departmental meetings and CPD events
  • Lead coaching activities including periodisation, game planning, and evaluation
  • Create and manage Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) with relevant departments
  • Deliver coaching hours per the coaching week, manage intensity/recovery
  • Achieve a minimum of 5 hours CPD annually to maintain UEFA B/A
  • Engage with development plans aligned with Head of Coaching framework
  • Implement academy strategies during sessions and games
  • Support early and late developers within squad management
  • Review performance data to identify development and progression
  • Work within the player competency framework
  • Participate in CPD activities organized by the Club and partners
  • Undertake other duties as required

Responsibilities

  • Support player transitions with Lead Phase Coaches
  • Implement APP policies and practices to meet outcomes
  • Comply with EPPP/Football League rules in training and matches
  • Integrate multi-disciplinary input into planning/delivery
  • Enter data and meet PMA reporting requirements
  • Attend CPD events and departmental meetings
  • Lead blocks of coaching, game planning and evaluation
  • Create and manage ILPs in consultation with departments
  • Manage coaching hours in line with the coaching week
  • Maintain UEFA CPD minimums (5 hours annually)
  • Align personal development with Head of Coaching framework
  • Apply academy strategies in sessions/games
  • Support development of early/late developers in squads
  • Review performance data for progression
  • Operate within the player competency framework
  • Participate in Club CPD initiatives
  • Undertake other duties as required

Job description

The Casual Academy Coach will be responsible for delivering high-quality coaching sessions in line with Barnsley FC’s Academy Coaching Curriculum. The role supports the development of young players through age-appropriate training and matchday activities, aligned with the Club’s coaching and playing philosophies.

This position requires a dynamic and enthusiastic individual with a commitment to continuous development and a collaborative approach to working within a multi-disciplinary team.

Key duties & responsibilities
  • Deliver coaching sessions that reflect the Academy’s Coaching Curriculum and Club philosophies
  • Adapt activities to suit individual and group needs across age phases
  • Liaise with Lead Phase Coaches to support player transition between age groups
  • Implement Academy Performance Plan (APP) policies and practices to meet desired outcomes
  • Comply with EPPP and Football League rules in training and matchday delivery
  • Integrate multi-disciplinary input into planning and delivery (e.g. sports science, education)
  • Meet EPPP requirements for planning, reporting, and data entry into the PMA system
  • Attend and contribute to departmental meetings and CPD events
  • Support and lead football activities including:
    • Periodisation of coaching blocks
    • Game planning and preparation
    • Coaching and match evaluation, including post-match analysis
  • Create and manage Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) in consultation with relevant departments
  • Deliver coaching hours in line with the ‘coaching working week’ model, managing intensity and recovery
  • Achieve a minimum of 5 hours CPD annually to maintain UEFA B/A qualification
  • Engage with personal development plans aligned with the Head of Coaching framework
  • Implement academy playing and coaching strategies into sessions and games
  • Support early and late developers within squad management
  • Review performance data and reports to identify player development and progression
  • Work within the player competency framework to ensure alignment with Club objectives
  • Participate in CPD activities organised by the Club and other providers.
  • Undertake any other tasks relevant to the whole-club ethos.
