Job summary

Wise in London is seeking a Cash Controller to join the Finance Team, ensuring timely and accurate cash balances across entities and building a scalable control environment.

You will work with the Balance Sheet Controller to strengthen cash processes, support external audits, and coordinate with global teams across Product and Engineering to resolve issues.

Qualifications

  • Practice – You have solid experience in Financial Accounting or Controlling. Prior experience in a fast-paced international environment or FinTech is a plus.
  • You have a track record of improving existing processes and the resilience to navigate the challenges of a growing business.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles (IFRS and/or US GAAP).
  • You take ownership for end-to-end responsibilities and know when to seek guidance on complex judgements.

Responsibilities

  • Execute month end controls for cash balances across regions and entities ensuring balances are recorded accurately based on cut-off policies.
  • Support the Balance Sheet controller in developing a robust substantiation program for cash balances with emphasis on financial statement assertions.
  • Conduct periodic reviews of bank integrations ensuring adherence to policies and escalate exceptions for root-cause fixes.
  • Collaborate with first line BAAM controlling teams to provide guidance during bank account setup and data capture.
  • Develop end-to-end documentation of how transactions impact Corporate and Customer Cash including risks and controls.
  • Identify missing or insufficient processes and drive solutions with cross-functional teams.
  • Participate in team planning cycles and raise items to strengthen cash controls.
  • Build strong relationships with the wider Finance Tribe.

Job Description

As a financial institution moving billions of pounds of customer money in more than 70 countries, Wise must have bulletproof financials. We are now looking for a Cash Controller to join our Finance Team in London. This role is a unique opportunity to have an impact on Wise’s mission by ensuring timely and accurate financial data as well as building mature processes and a scalable control environment.

A bit about the role:

As a Cash Controller you will be supporting the Balance Sheet Controller overseeing Wise’s financials, ensuring that Wise’s Cash balances across entities are controlled and reported accurately. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Execute month end controls for cash balances across regions and entities ensuring balances are recorded accurately based on cut-off policies;

  • Support the Balance Sheet controller in developing a robust substantiation program for cash balances with particular emphasis on financial statement assertions;

  • Conduct periodic reviews of bank integrations ensuring adherence to policies, elevate exceptions to engineering teams so the root cause can be identified and fixed at source;

  • Work closely with our first line BAAM controlling teams to provide guidance and support during bank account setup ensuring relevant reference data is captured and recorded appropriately;

  • Develop a good understanding of bank account integrations to support external audit walkthroughs and documentation and acting as a first point of contact for Cash related questions;

  • Create and maintain "end-to-end" documentation of how various transactions impact both Corporate and Customer Cash incorporating risk and controls;

  • Identify missing or insufficient processes and take initiative to find solutions, in collaboration with other teams;

  • Participate in team planning cycles and raise key items to remediate to make cash controlling more robust and secure;

  • Build strong working relationships with the wider Finance Tribe.

Qualifications

About you:

  • Practice – You have solid experience in Financial Accounting or Controlling. Prior experience in a fast-paced international environment or FinTech is a plus. You have a track record of improving existing processes and the resilience to navigate the challenges of a growing business.

  • Theory – You possess a good understanding of core accounting principles (IFRS and/or US GAAP).

  • Ownership – You are a self-starter who takes responsibility for your assigned area end-to-end. While you’re comfortable acting autonomously on day-to-day decisions, you know when to seek guidance on complex judgements that impact the wider team.

  • Love Getting Things Done – You have a "roll up your sleeves" attitude. You enjoy digging into the details, reconciling data, and solving operational problems to ensure the financial closing is accurate and timely.

  • Collaborative Communication – You work effectively in a global team and can translate complex financial data into clear updates for stakeholders. You’re comfortable building relationships across different functions (like Product or Engineering) to resolve mutual problems.
