Multi‑Skilled Carpenter – Works Department
The Multi‑Skilled Carpenter reports to the Supervisor and Manager within the Works Department, which operates out of a new purpose‑built facility. The role involves working as part of a multi‑disciplined maintenance team focused on both reactive maintenance and refurbishment projects.
- Maintenance & Repair: Carry out all aspects of carpentry work in the maintenance, improvement, and alteration of the College's varied building stock.
- Reactive Work: Predominantly carry out reactive maintenance duties, alongside involvement in refurbishment projects.
- Specific Repairs: Undertake various repairs, including to doors (including fire door repairs and upgrades), sash and casement windows, flooring, kitchens, and mouldings.
- Additional Trades: Must be able to carry out at least two additional trade skills to an intermediate level.
- Plastering: Able to complete various plastering works, such as patch repairs or skimming.
- Plumbing: Able to plumb in kitchen appliances, bathroom suites, and undertake small heating repairs.
- Bricklaying: Able to take on repointing and small bricklaying tasks.
- Ceramic Tiling: Able to tile kitchen and bathrooms.
- Work Conditions: Be aware of the physical nature of the position and the requirement to work under all weather conditions and also at heights.
- Call‑Outs: Be expected to respond to occasional out of hours emergency call‑outs (paid at overtime rate).

- Core Competency: An experienced, competent carpenter & joiner with an eye for detail.
- Multi‑Skilled: Competent and experienced in a range of trades (as listed above). Experience may be by qualification, time served, or a combination of both.
- Working Environment: Able to work unsupervised as well as within a team.
- Historic Buildings: Some experience of working in historic buildings is essential.
- Desirable Experience: Particular experience with Listed buildings and traditional skills is an advantage.
