Job summary

Carlisle Mencap Ltd in Cumbria is seeking a dynamic, caring person to provide person-centred support to people with learning disabilities in our services. You will work in partnership with individuals to enable active control over their lives, promote independence and inclusion, and respond proactively to situations.

The role includes developing care plans, assisting with daily living, personal care, safeguarding, and enabling access to community facilities.

Qualifications

• Experience working with individuals with learning disabilities in residential or community settings (essential).
• Sign language knowledge such as Makaton (desirable).
• Full driving licence (desirable).
• Understanding of safeguarding policies and person-centred care approaches.

Responsibilities

• Develop trusting relationships with service users to understand needs, views and concerns.
• Assist in drawing up care plans reflecting needs and wishes, encouraging choice and independence.
• Enable service users to be involved in daily life activities (cooking, cleaning, shopping, washing).
• Provide personal care as needed with dignity and respect, using safe manual handling methods.
• Encourage cultural and spiritual expression and community involvement.
• Uphold safeguarding policies and confidentiality; work as part of a friendly, supportive team.

We require a dynamic, caring forward thinking person to provide individualised person-centred support to people who have learning disabilities in our services.

You will work in partnership with individuals to enable them to take active control over their lives and make progress toward their personal goals. You will work in an anti-discriminatory manner, ensuring that the rights and entitlements of the Service Users are respected at all times. You will promote self-esteem, independence and social inclusion. The successful applicant will be able to think on their feet, work under their own initiative at times and respond to situations with a proactive attitude.

Job Description:

To develop trusting relationships with service users to encourage then to express their needs, views and concerns.

To assist service users in drawing up care plans and person-centred plans which reflect their needs and wishes, encourage choice, independence and inclusion as well as opportunities for new experiences.

To enable service users to be fully involved, where practical, in the running of their own life, including cooking, cleaning, shopping and washing whilst encouraging choice and independence.

To provide personal care for service users, as needed, which may include assisting with washing, dressing, using the toilet and nutrition that the personal dignity and rights of the individual are respected at all times, using appropriate manual handling methods and equipment.

To encourage service users in meeting their cultural and spiritual needs and in expressing their personal identity.

To work within and promote the Adult and Children's safeguarding policies of Carlisle Mencap, Cumbria's Adult Social Care and Children's Services.

To fully implement individual care plans and person-centred plans.

To be responsible for the safe storage and administration of medication, as required.

To enable service users to make full use of the community facilities and accompany them in leisure pursuits.

To uphold the vision and good standing of Carlisle Mencap.

To Liaise With Families And Other Agencies As Required.

To maintain confidentiality at all times.

To work as part of a team to provide a friendly and supportive atmosphere.

It is mandatory to undertake a range of training specific to the position including the Care Certificate. You may be given the opportunity to progress onto RQF Level 2 diploma in Adult Social Care.
