Job summary

Invictus Group is seeking an experienced General Maintenance Operative/Caretaker in Brighton to maintain the fabric of a high-profile building.

The role covers planned and reactive maintenance, basic plumbing and carpentry, and hands-on handyman tasks. You will support the facilities team, keep the site tidy, and record work undertaken in line with procedures.

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned and reactive fabric maintenance across the site.
• Inspections and repairs of fire doors and basic building systems.
• Carpentry tasks including doors and fixtures.
• Handyperson duties and general repairs to ceilings and walls.
• Support soft services team and keep the site tidy.
• Accurately record works completed per site procedures.

General Maintenance Operative / Caretaker

Location: Brighton, West Sussex, BN2

Salary: £30,500 per annum

Working Pattern: Monday to Friday

Hours: Optional of 7am – 4pm or 8am – 5pm

Invictus are seeking an experienced General Maintenance Operative on behalf of a specialist engineering team within the Facilities Management (FM) industry, working at an iconic, high-profile building in Brighton, West Sussex.

This is a client-facing role within a professional environment, where members of the client organisation and the general public regularly use the facilities. A high standard of workmanship, presentation, and communication is essential.

Key Responsibilities

• Carrying out planned and reactive fabric maintenance across the site
• Planned (PPM) building inspections & repairs of fire doors (locks, hinges, door handles)
• Basic plumbing/water system PPM
• Carpentry works, including doors, locks, fixtures, and fittings
• Handyperson duties - general building repairs to ceiling tiles and holes in walls
• Providing support to soft services team when required, maintaining a tidy site and workplace
• Accurately recording works completed in line with site procedures

Essential Skills & Experience

• Proven experience in a fabric or facilities maintenance role
• Competent in basic plumbing, carpentry, and general handyperson tasks
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Professional, customer-focused approach with excellent communication skills
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a wider engineering team

Security & Compliance Requirements

Due to the nature of the site, successful candidates must be able to pass an Enhanced DBS check
