A local educational institution in Whitby is seeking a Caretaker to ensure the safety and upkeep of school facilities. This role involves security checks, minor repairs, and maintaining cleanliness across two school sites. Ideal candidates should have experience with health and safety procedures and flexibility in working hours. A supportive team and opportunities for development are offered, along with holiday and pension options.
Are you a skilled tradesperson seeking a block of regular income working from a fixed location? We welcome applications from candidates who have not undertaken caretaker duties before but have transferable skills.
We are looking for a Caretaker to join our team, working under the guidance of our experienced Site Manager, to ensure our school is a safe place for pupils to learn and for staff to work.
We have two school sites - one at Airy Hill in Whitby and the other at Prospect Hill in Whitby. Our school is maintained by a team of site staff including a part‑time Site Manager, Senior Caretaker, and two Caretakers (one who is also a Cleaning Supervisor for our Airy Hill Site). We commission some additional grounds maintenance tasks externally to help with the maintenance of both sites.
As our new caretaker you may be expected to work across our two sites, assisting with lettings as required on a rota basis, and will need to be flexible in your working hours and duties. You will work closely with our Site Manager to get a full induction, including manual handling and other health and safety courses, such as legionella and asbestos awareness.
This role is ideal for a self‑employed trades‑person to have a solid block of work booked in until August 2026.
When applying please take into account the following:
The supporting information section of your application should clearly evidence your ability to meet the requirements we have outlined in the person specification (see application pack). This will be used to shortlist applicants for this role and therefore it is imperative that you provide evidence as requested.
When completing your application, please provide two employment referees. Generally, this is your current and most recent employer. Please note your referee should ideally be a previous line manager or someone in a position of authority.
