Job summary

A facilities management provider is seeking a proactive Caretaker to join the team at Glan Usk Primary School in Newport. The role involves supervising events, performing maintenance tasks, and ensuring a safe environment. Ideal candidates will have caretaking experience and an understanding of health & safety practices. This is a hands-on role with a Monday to Friday schedule, requiring some evening work for supervision.

Qualifications

  • SSSTS training is a requirement (can be provided).

Job description

VINCI Facilities is seeking a dedicated and proactive Caretaker to join our team at Glan Usk Primary School in Newport. This is a key role in ensuring the smooth day‑to‑day operation of the school premises, supporting both the school and third‑party users of the facilities. If you’re hands‑on, community‑minded, and looking for a varied role with real impact, we’d love to hear from you. This is a Monday‑Friday role, 10–18:15, however there is a requirement for evening work to supervise third‑party lets.

Responsibilities
  • Supervise third‑party lettings (e.g. after‑school clubs, community events)
  • Perform minor maintenance tasks (e.g. locks, windows, lightbulbs)
  • Conduct weekly alarm checks and fire door inspections (training provided)
  • Maintain tidy and safe school grounds, including snow/ice clearance
  • Support occasional cleaning duties and floor polishing
  • Set up rooms for meetings, assemblies, and lunchtime arrangements
  • Assist with deliveries and general caretaking duties as required; previous experience in a similar role would be advantageous
  • SSSTS (Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme) – training can be provided
  • Health & Safety awareness or qualifications (desirable)
