We’re looking for a career advisor to join our team and talk one-on-one to talented, altruistic applicants to help them find high-impact careers. Career advising is one of our most promising programs, and we are now at the stage where we are looking to expand and enhance this program with a dedicated advisor.

Responsibilities

As a Career Adviser at Animal Advocacy Careers, you will be responsible for the following:

  • Develop in-depth expertise on the broader animal advocacy space, non-profit talent bottlenecks, and high-leverage opportunities in adjacent sectors.
  • Possess expertise in analysing data to identify trends and improve our services
    • For example, design career pathways for specific common candidate skills and their top 3 career paths.
    • Analyse and create refined profiles of the ideal coaching candidates most likely to benefit most from coaching and transition into high-impact roles to continuously refine our screening process.
  • Demonstrate strong writing skills to create engaging posts that add value to our target audience and help attract them to our career coaching.

Role Requirements
  • A strong interest in effective altruism and animal advocacy
  • A deep interest in understanding people, and the ability to be supportive and kind when discussing sensitive issues
  • A high social budget, and would enjoy having a lot of one-on-one conversations via video call
  • The ability and desire to rapidly learn and follow developments in the talent needs of our movement and the movement more holistically
  • Excellent professional communication and social skills, both verbal and written
  • Strong analytical skills, and would enjoy puzzling out the key considerations for a complex problem
  • Strong presentation skills with the willingness to travel for work

Previous experience in farmed animal advocacy would be a significant advantage in the role, but we encourage you to apply even without that.

You don’t have to have any particular previous experience to qualify for this role. We can imagine a wide array of experience types that might increase our confidence in your ability to perform the role to a high standard in rough priority order, e.g. if you’ve enjoyed managing, mentoring, or teaching or community building, experience with coaching is not necessary.

Additionally, it is sometimes said that men tend to apply for jobs when they meet only some of a job’s criteria, while women and other marginalised groups are less likely to apply if they are not a 100% match. If you are passionate about AAC’s mission and think you have what it takes to be successful in this, please apply even if you don’t check all the boxes. We’d appreciate the opportunity to consider your application.
