Job summary

Job description
Responsibilities
  • To liaise on a weekly basis with the SENCO
  • To be responsible for the area budget including first aid supplies
  • To be the first point of contact for all relevant external agencies and liaise with these as appropriate
  • To be the central figure in a personal support service providing for the daily needs of students who experience physical disability, including mobility, toileting, washing, feeding and showering; the aid of hoist equipment may be required following risk assessment
  • To administer prescribed drugs / medication to students when appropriate ensuring medication is stored correctly and accurate records are kept
  • To assist students with the mobility, toileting, washing, physical therapy and feeding and other daily needs
  • To supervise the arrival and departure of students with mobility needs and liaise with the SENCO concerning changes in arrangements
  • To assist students who have a disability, if required, enabling them to access external activities organised by the College
  • To give assistance when required by outside agencies visiting College e.g. physio / speech and occupational therapist, to ensure delivery of these services to the students who require them
  • To help establish strong links with specialist school provision to help exchange medical information on individual students and to keep and update records on the same
  • Develop and maintain accurate and robust student records and Medical Administration Records ensuring these are regularly reviewed for all students where required throughout the College
  • To ensure the confidentiality of student records
  • To ensure comfort and care of visitors with disabilities to the College
  • To be a First Aider and work closely with the First Aiders in College, ensuring that First Aid Boxes are maintained to required standard and to inform staff of Emergency Aid procedures
  • To ensure that first aid boxes and supplies are checked monthly, replenished where required and records kept and maintained
  • To undertake monthly defibrillator checks and ensure records are kept and maintained
  • To maintain high standards of hygiene in the Medical and First Aid Rooms to monitor available supplies of medical equipment / resources including e equipment and contents
  • To adhere to all College policies, attend training sessions and participate in in-house courses as necessary
  • To undertake ongoing staff development as required including the use of specialist equipment and assessments and to take responsibility for maintaining own training requirements dependent upon legislation and individual student needs
  • To ensure that all relevant College Policies on Health & Safety are fully implemented
  • To observe and implement the College’s Equality & Diversity Policy
  • To attend meetings and complete mandatory training in accordance with the colleges meeting / training schedule
  • To assist at the colleges Open Evening / Consultation Evenings
  • Each member of the College will take reasonable care for the health and safety of himself / herself and persons who may be affected by his / her omissions at work
  • To undertake any other duties as may be assigned commensurate with the grade and overall responsibility level of the post and as changing circumstances may require
Contract and Salary Information

Start date: As soon as possible

Contract: Established, 36 hours per week, term time only

Salary: Point 12 to 14 – £29,544 to £31,324 per annum (payable £23,748.83 to £25,179.68 per annum depending on experience)
